Job search site Indeed recently ranked the top remote jobs currently available, with technical support engineers, application developers, and software engineers making the list.
Full-stack developers have secured the top spot in Indeed’s yearly “best jobs” ranking in the US due to high demand and a bright 10-year outlook across multiple industries. Indeed also evaluated factors such as salary and remote/hybrid job opportunities. This job offers a high mean salary of $129,637 and abundant workplace flexibility, with over 50% of listings on Indeed’s database offering remote or hybrid options. The requirement for full-stack developers, who handle both front and back end website/app development, coding, and software maintenance, has expanded beyond the tech industry recently.
Technical support engineers came in 8th place with an average salary of $67,326, while application developers were ranked 13th with an average salary of $80,761. Software engineers came in 14th place with an average salary of $113,660. Project engineers were also on the list, with an average salary of $74,169.
A separate study from HR consultancy Remote found that web developer roles offer the best opportunities for remote work, followed by data scientists, software engineers, data analysts, and cybersecurity positions. The study analyzed the 40 most commonly advertised job roles on Glassdoor, examining the percentage of listings that allowed for remote work in both the US and the UK.
In the US, web developers had the highest chance of working remotely, with 37% of positions advertised as having that option, according to Remote. Additionally, web developers can earn 31% more than the US industry average in a remote role.
