It’s safe to admit the last 2 years have experienced significant changes, especially how and where employees do their jobs. In addition to the pandemic, companies streamlined workflows, empowered and engaged teams, and optimized for growth in the future.

As innovations are gaining further momentum, this pace of changes is now quickly becoming the standard norm.

What are we going to see the world look like in 2022?

According to ADP Research Institute, 64% of the world’s workforce has suffered a negative impact from the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes 28% who were let go of their jobs, were furloughed or temporarily laid off and 23 % who had their wages cut. As a result, this made workers redefine their needs, especially on how and where are they going to do their jobs, pressuring the companies as employers to meet their demands.

Let us take a look at the 4 key trends that shape this evolution:

A new approach to employee visibility is going to be implemented

Looking at the People at Work: A global Workforce View study by the ADP Research Institute, 75% of the world’s workforce changed their plans about how or where are they going to live, this trend is even higher (up to 85%) among Generation Z.

Since employees no longer share a single location and companies are operating in a mix of hybrid, on-site and remote locations, businesses will need to develop new ways to increase employees’ visibility.

Managers will use people data to better understand the needs of a dispersed workforce.

Workplace culture will be shaped by people and purpose

To create a workplace for everyone to be able to thrive, companies should embrace people-centered initiatives that will include maximizing worker flexibility through work arrangements, policies, and programs for benefits, and providing the tools that employees need to succeed.

Resiliency is powered by expertise and reliable data

ADP’s HR Survey Series with HR Outsourcing discovered that almost 20% of American enterprises counting between 25 and 99 workers acknowledge that they are faced with challenges in compliance and regulations issues. Since regulations are changing continuously, this percentage may go even higher.

Managers will have to depend heavily on real-time information to make proper decisions and stay on top of compliance regulations.

Growth will be accelerated by greater innovations

Companies will turn to technology to help expand capabilities, drive efficiency, and reduce task works, as business models are changing amid global shifts.

As a result of this evolution, organizations are adopting technologies that enhance employee experience while creating efficiencies.

Additionally, we will witness a rise in skill-based hiring, since the roles are continuously evolving amid a digital transformation and the impact of the pandemic on the labor market as well. According to the ADP Research Institute, 28% of workers have reported having taken new roles as a result of the shifting in the labor market due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Many employees had to learn a new skill alternative to their original jobs to adjust to the new working models, some of which stayed permanent.

Employees get that learning a new skill will help them become more attractive in a challenging work market. Companies who wish to keep quality employees and enhance their job performance will have to make sure to provide opportunities for the development of new skills for them and support them to reach their potential.

Towards the future

Employees will take a huge role in how companies adapt to the new work dynamics as they continue to shift. For each business to succeed, the people play a major role in it. If you don’t have employees that feel connected to your company and the jobs they are doing, growth is only an idea. Only when working as a team, companies and their employees can reach their full potential.
